Bad News for Bugs
DEET chemical repellants have long been recommended for controlling the spread of mosquito borne viruses in the United States. Problem is, many people hesitate, or refuse to use DEET containing product because of reports of brain damage, respiratory distress, skin irritation, and other health concerns. It doesn‘‘t help that DEET repellants have an offensive chemical odor and can damage plastics and other materials. There will be a whole slew of lemon eucalyptus repellants coming out, but in the meantime, look for Aura Cacia Essential Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus at Eureka Market and make your own! Here are three different ideas on how to create your own repellant 1.) Mix 5-10 drops essential oil of lemon eucalyptus per 2 T. vegetable oil. Ideally, store in glass dropper bottle
2.) Mix 5-10 drops essential oil of lemon eucalyptus in 1⁄4 cup witch hazel or apple cider vinegar. Store in spray bottle for easy application.
3.) Mix into prepared bottles of lotion, aloe gel, or sunscreen. Use about 20-40 drops per 8 oz. of lotion.
Tips
Use lower concentration for children. Shake well before applying. Test product on small area to check for irritation. Reapply every hour or so. Not for use during pregnancy
